About Basilisk

Basilisk is a free reference to the creatures of world mythology and folklore. Each entry draws on widely-recognized traditional accounts, presents them in plain language, and notes where stories vary across cultures.

We treat living cultures and religions with respect: entries describe creatures as mythological or folkloric, and we do not present sacred figures of living faiths as fictional. Where traditions differ, we say so rather than picking one version as the single truth.

The site is written in English first, with a Chinese-language edition of each entry for bilingual readers.
